Community Chest short of goal

seeks tax-deductible donations

COUNTY -- Shelby County Community Chest still has hopes of raising $30,000 for local organizations. "Currently we are short of our goal by 66% as of December 24," said Becky Morenz. "Without the tax-deductible donations we will not be able to fund all of the grants. A simple donation or hundreds of dollars can make a difference." The board meets mid-February to make a final review and disperse funds for the 2020 campaign.

COUNTY -- Thousands of dollars in community impact grants were recently awarded by Shelby County Community Chest (SCCC) to benefit local programs. On Monday, March 9, SCCC distributed checks to 20 local organizations that benefitted from the 2019 fund drive.

Funds are raised annually by SCCC for organizations which provide services to the communities within Shelby County. SCCC Chair Dawn Winnett said the committee that oversees the funds has focused more on programs and organizations that reach as many individuals as possible.

“The nature of Shelby County Community Chest is to give contributors the ability to make a one-time donation that will have a broad impact for several local organizations.” said Winnett. “Each organization dedicates their services to our community in its own unique way, and we’re grateful to all the donors who make these valuable services possible.”

Shelby County Community Chest invites you to visit its website, shelbycocc.wixsite.com/mysite where you can learn more about SCCC and about the agencies that benefitted from this year’s campaign. Donations may be made a variety of ways including mail to PO Box 527, Harlan, IA 51537, online at shelbycocc.wixsite.com/mysite or via automatic withdrawal, or they can be dropped off at any Shelby County State Bank.

If you are a member of a Shelby County non-profit, 501c(3), SCCC encourages you to apply for this coming year’s fund drive. The applications are available on the SCCC website and the deadline is August 31, 2020. Organizations may contact Dawn Winnett at 265-9017 for more information.
